Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me." -Matthew 16:24

I believe this grieves the Holy Spirit: My hearers rise to this call emotionally, but they will not confirm it by a corresponding change in their way of life. Their goodness is like the morning clouds-by 9:00 o'clock the sun has burnt off the fog. This is what happens to many people's good intentions. They rise emotionally to an urgent message that we become a New Testament church, that we become a model church, that we have the order of the New Testament and the power of the Holy Spirit in order that we might worship, work and witness. Emotionally they rise to it, but they will not confirm their emotions by corresponding changes in their way of life.
They want to be blessed by God, but they want God to bless them on their terms. They look pensively to God for victory, but they will not bring their giving into line. They will not practice family prayer, rushing off without it. They will not take time for secret prayer and will not forgive those who have wronged them. They will not seek to be reconciled to those with whom they have quarreled. They will not pick up their crosses and say, "Jesus, I my cross have taken, all to leave and follow Thee."

"Lord, may my desire for You rise above emotions. I do want to be blessed of You, both personally and in my ministry. I commit myself this day to a willingness to take my cross and follow You-and to take the necessary action to come on Your terms. Amen."

i can agree with this. I'm currently reading the Threshing Floor by Juanita Bynum and those of you who've read or currently reading it may recall her talking about the brazen altar, in which we are to sacrifice ourselves in order to get in total alignment with the will of God.

This goes back to the scripture, many are called but few are chosen. Only those sincerely after the heart and will of God will be able to give up on their own fleshly desires in order to serve the Lord. Only those who are truly seeking His face and not merely His hand will be able to avoid giving in to the conformity of this world. Its hard, OH MY GOSH is it hard but it is definitely worth the sacrifice. Our sacrifes are so little in comparison to what Jesus had to go through for us. How difficult is it for us to forgive that woman who spread our business all over church when Jesus hung from a cross and was able to forgive the people who murdered him. If God can have such patience and mercy for us why then can't we carry that over into our everyday lives.

God is trying to get us to another level. And i hate to sound redundant but this is the time, and these are the days. Our faith, obedience and diligence will surely be rewarded. God is just getting the few that He's called in place for their blessings. The tests are getting harder, the fire is getting hotter..but the Promise is getting closer. We have to hold it down...the faithful have to stand on the word of God and show the world through our actions how the righteous live.

This scripture here in the amplified is my reponse I think it says it all

Matt 16:24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, If anyone desires to be My disciple, let him deny himself [disregard, lose sight of, and forget himself and his own interests] and take up his cross and follow Me [cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying, also].
